Lady Fareed Home for Elders

Lady Ameena Fareed wife of the founder President of the Moors Islamic Cultural Home donated a house situated on 193 perches of land to establish a Home for the Elders in Makola.

On September, 22nd 1957, the Elders Home was declared open by the Governor General of Ceylon, Sir Oliver Goonetilleke. K.B.E., G.C.M.G.,K.C.V.O.

At the approach of the 50th Anniversary the Home received a major boost due to the spontaneous and unsolicited act of generosity by Hajee Eliyas Abdul Kareem, Chairman EAM Maliban Textiles (Pvt) Ltd.

A spanking new state of the art building complete with all the infrastructure and modern amenities was totally financed by Hajee Eliyas Abdul Kareem in memory of his beloved parents, and was constructed under his watchful eye and personal attention.

The present layout of this building with the equipment together with all facilities nestling amidst salubrious ambience will help the Home to take in 65 residents. The present complex will aid the residents to spend the twilight years of their life in peace and serenity.
